J&M Myth-busters Part One: "All I Need Is A DJ."

Did you know that the "M" in J&M Entertainment stands for Myth-buster?!

Okay, so maybe that is not what the "M" stands for, but that did not stop us from taking on the task of de-bunking wedding myths that often creep into the ears of couples while planning their wedding. What better way to start than at the very beginning?! As many of you know, over the past nearly 4 decades J&M Entertainment has grown into an entertainment company that specializes in 7 inclusive services all with one award-winning vendor. However, it all started as a small DJ company. Over the years we have crafted the J&M experience into something that is so much more than "just a DJ." Yet there are still a lot of people planning their event who think they need just that. If you are one of those people, this is for you:

Let us start at the very beginning. According to Merriam-Webster, a DJ is a Disc Jockey (who is typically associated with mixing different sources of pre-recorded music for a live audience). This is not to be confused with a Master of Ceremonies (MC) who is announcer and official host of the event. While these two roles can often be performed by the same person, for the sake of this myth-busting segment we are solely going to be speaking about DJs.

This leads us to our second point that we need to clarify before de-bunking our myth topic: DJ vs. iPod. While this comparison may initially seem a bit absurd, the question it poses is important. The key difference is the interaction. Can an iPod have a predetermined playlist that plays mash-ups of your favorite songs throughout your entire event? Yes, of course! However, the value of the DJ comes in when you factor in the interaction that is needed to create a memorable and fun evening for your guests. A professional and talented DJ will meet with you to discuss the experience you want at your event, read the crowd at the reception, and (most importantly) give you the most bang for you buck by getting your guests on the dance floor and keeping them there.

Now that we have laid the groundwork, it is time for the juicy stuff!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "JUST A DJ" AT J&M.

To truly make your event incredible, we start our DJ process at least 4 weeks leading up to your event. This includes meeting with your DJ that was hand-selected for you after your initial consultation, picking your must have songs, talking about any fears you have about your day, and discussing all of the visions that you have for your reception. Our DJs also get to your event beforehand to ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout your event, continually handle any unforeseen obstacles the day of, and stay well after your event to break down all of the equipment. All of our DJs are friendly, reliable, talented, and dedicated to making your event everything that you deserve and more. They also know you personally by the time your event comes and give you the peace of mind that your event is in the hands of a professional.

If you are still on the fence, think about changing the phrase "All I need is a DJ" to "All I need is music." If both of those statements are equally accurate in your mind, then an iPod is most likely all you need to make your event everything that you want, and there is nothing wrong with that! One incredible part about planning your own event is that it is your own! However, if you read the above statements and you definitely are looking to make your event special with more than just something your guests can listen to in the car ride home, contact us today to see how we can help you!

We hope you enjoyed this edition of myth-busting in the wedding world! For more information on our DJ services, contact us today at 661.257.1725 or info@jandmentertainment.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
